Troy Strawberry Festival cut back

This year, the Troy Strawberry Festival celebrated its 40 years. Since 1977, Troy has provided some of the best selection of strawberries and strawberry foods. Over the years, the festival has grown in popularity with attendees and events.

This is the second year that the festival has been split into two parts from the park to the middle of town. The split makes for a delightful trip and avoids overcrowding. It offers some of the best strawberry donuts in town, although the wait for them may be long- it goes fast.

The festival begins with the ceremonal events followed by the festival parade, softball tournaments, pie eating contests, big wheel races, a football game, Strawberry Festival Pageant, a bike tour and even a diaper derby.

The Strawberry festival is a place one can go to if looking for some freshly picked strawberry that can be bought in a bucket, shop vendors from handmade jewelry, the newest yard decorations, and a taste of great food from food trucks.

This year, the weather was warm, spotting rain storms but for the most part, a perfect weekend. Hopefully next year, the vendors will increase.

Next year, mark the calendar for the first weekend of the month to attend the Troy Strawberry Festival.
