The Old Bag of Nails Pub

I drove past this place and I didn’t think it was really going to be much of anything. “The Old Bag of Nails Pub”— yeah – love the name but thought it was just going to be a boring bar with bar food. But, it was a Sunday afternoon and there wasn’t really anything around and it was new- so why not.

“The Old Bag of Nails” was far more than anything I expected. First, the decor was rich, and fancy looking. Lots of dark wood booth separators that provided privacy from the bar area, each inside booth had a private television on the table that the waiter could control as far as channel and sound, and the place was spotless and welcoming.

Now, let’s talk about the menu. Nothing about the food was “bar food”. It was fish, mussels, shrimp, potato cakes, scallops, great appetizers and much more. The food selection was so different from any other place in the area – making it a destination pub.

I had the fish haddock fish sandwich and the potato cakes (which I would recommend to everyone- they were delicious) and my husband ordered the sliders and fries. I’m not a breaded fish fan so I ate it without the bun. The breading on the fish was light, thin and perfect for someone like me who doesn’t like a think breading that takes over the delicious, flakiness of the fish. I’ve never had potato cakes but these little pieces of basically fried mashed potatoes were so refreshing – I can’t wait to get more.

The waitress was very patient, since it takes me forever to decide what to order when I’m visiting a new place. She allowed us plenty of time to browse the menu, ask questions and was right on spot when the time came for refills and the check.

This might be our next favorite spot for Sundays.
