Basil’s on Market was a special find while I was exploring the downtown area. It was a beautiful day, so we sat outside on the patio. The patio was perfect. It’s spacious, provides shade and ample seating – table and couches for comfortable dining or visiting. It was relaxing, hip and young, but yet classy and romantic at the same time. It was also nice to hear and see the river flowing just past the railing. Even though this establishment hugs a main road, it wasn’t noticed.
But, what was really noticed, was the pleasant presentation of the food. It was all beautiful and delicious looking. I didn’t know if I wanted to eat it – but glad I did. I ordered the soup and salad and it was the best soup I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to go again. The salad was crisp, fresh and light. I washed it all down with the raspberry lemonade, which was out of this world. It was fresh squeezed with a robust taste of fresh raspberries. So good.
The waitress was very helpful in the menu selection and provided the perfect amount of privacy without being overbearing or annoying.
Inside, the decor was warm and inviting with a full bar and a large “private room” for larger parties. We were there for lunch, but I can see how it would be a great place to hang out in the evenings.
The only downside of this location is the parking situation. They do not have their own parking lot, so street parking is the way to go- but could leave you walking blocks. If there is a game or something special going on in town, the garage might be open and available, but it wasn’t when we were there. If the garage is open, you would have to pay to park. Remember, on the weekends and evenings, parking meters are free on the street.
If you are going downtown, check this place out. You won’t regret it.
