Lori and Bryan Lucas, owners of This Old Couch located on Dayton-Xenia Road, is stepping things up during the summer months and getting back to their property’s roots by offering a weekly farmer’s market each and every Sunday afternoon through October 29.
“Our store was originally an old farmhouse that was built in 1896 by the great-great grandson of Jacob Coy, one of the original settlers of Beavercreek,” Mr. Lucas said. “So, we wanted to offer fresh locally grown products such as eggs, honey, baked goods, and other specialty food items throughout the summer.”
This Old Couch was opened on 2014 and has been providing customers with refurbished, repurposed and vintage items for the home and garden. Each week, the market will feature some favorite vendors but also new vendors. Check out This Old Couch’s Facebook page for the weekly rundown of farmer vendors that will be offered.
“We have also teamed up with Decoy Arts Studio and other local artists to offer local artisan demonstrations,” Mr. Lucas said.
This past week, Megan from Decoy Arts Studio demonstrated the art of clay shaping and pottery skills by using a pottery wheel. Her smooth, slow hand movements made each piece as magical as the next. The Sneaky Cat Bakery offered delicious treats while the Bairquist Specialty Meat Market offered Omega 3 meat products such as eggs and chickens. Pay If Forward brought fresh wild flowers and organic vegetables. There was even fresh coffee and honey booths.
“I contacted other Farmer Markets in the area and continued by research through social media to find a good variety of vendors to offer during our events,” Mr. Lucas said. “We wanted to link our customers to those that grow/bake/make fresh organic alternative foods and help other local small businesses.”
Some of the vendors visitors can look forward to seeing this summer include The Rolling Oasis, which offers ice cream, smoothies, gyros and more; Young’s Dairy, offering ice cream and cheese curds; Let’s Wrap, offering an array of wrapped sandwiches; Carvasos, offering Mexican dishes; Vista, offering Vietnamese cuisine; and Urban BBQ and Spicy Roosters, offering BBQ foods.
