This year marks another successful end to the Waynesville Sauerkraut Festival, which is one of the largest local festivals in Ohio. It started out very cold – which was a welcome change to some because in the past the heat had been an issue. Although it started out cold, it ended a wet, rainy mess- which didn’t dampen the crowds.
But, Saturday morning the fans came in bus loads from the high school and a steady stream of visitors came and went all weekend long.
I did notice one really nice thing this year — people were leaving the festival with purchases. Even though many of the booths were the same as years past, there were a few new booths this year to help modernize the festival a little.
The food is what brings the men. From footlong hot dogs piled high with sauerkraut, pizza with the famous festival ingredient, sauerkraut sundaes, funnel cakes, and much more. The line for the sauerkraut donuts averaged around 45 minutes.
